Layer 2 Scaling Technology

Zkircuit utilizes a Layer 2 scaling solution, likely based on either rollups or state channels, which are common in L2 architectures. These technologies work by handling transactions off the main Ethereum chain but still ensure security and finality through periodic commitments to the Ethereum mainnet.

  • Rollups: Bundle or "roll up" transactions into a single batch, processed off-chain, and then post transaction data back to the main chain. This reduces the load on Ethereum while still maintaining the security guarantees of the blockchain.

  • State Channels: Allow participants to transact with each other directly off-chain in a secure environment and only settle the final state on-chain. This is useful for applications requiring many state updates, like gaming or online marketplaces.
